TECHSHIELD BLUE FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Following are answers to frequently asked questions about TechShield Blue:
What is TechShield Blue? |
TechShield Blue is a next-generation, premium anti-reflective (AR) coating that reduces exposure to blue light from digital screens, energy-efficient lighting, and the sun. It is included as a specialty AR coating in the full portfolio of TechShield Anti-Reflective Coatings.
|
How does TechShield Blue work? |
TechShield Blue works by both absorbing and reflecting blue light.
|
How much blue light does TechShield Blue reduce? |
TechShield Blue provides the biggest benefit in the blue light wavelength range associated with digital eye strain (400nm - 430 nm).
As a standard practice we do not promote a single fixed blue-light reduction percentage, because we do not feel this is the most scientifically appropriate or accurate way to describe what the product actually does in terms of blue light reduction. Instead, we publish TechShield Blue’s spectral transmittance graph which shows the percent reduction at all wavelengths across the entire blue light spectrum (400nm - 500nm). Please reference the TechShield Blue sales sheet or visit TechShieldBlue.com to view the product’s spectral transmittance graph. |
What does TechShield Blue look like? |
TechShield Blue has a near-clear appearance. However, in conditions where a high amount of blue light is present, the product will have an indigo hue. The degree of color is determined by the amount of ambient blue light in the vicinity of the wearer. When there is more blue light present, the product will have more indigo coloration. When there is less blue light present, the product will appear clearer.
TechShield Blue’s near-clear appearance differentiates it from other blue-light-reducing lens products in the market that only absorb blue light (causing a yellow/orange hue) or only reflect blue light (causing a purple hue). |
What materials and lens designs are available with TechShield Blue? |
TechShield Blue is available on all lens designs and materials, unless otherwise specified by the manufacturer.
|
Is TechShield Blue available on tinted or polarized lenses? |
We are not manufacturing tinted or polarized lenses with TechShield Blue due to the change this would cause in spectral properties of the product.
